Add to Cart Lower on Mobile

If your add to cart is lower on mobile compared with a desktop, this tells us that the layout, content and overall user experience of your product page has issues when compared with the desktop version of your product pages.

When a user is on your product pages, you want to ensure they have all of the information they need to maximize the chances that they will add the product to their cart and proceed with the purchase. This includes quality product images, detailed product descriptions and specs, user reviews, shipping and return information, and a general level of trust and confidence in your brand and business.

Common Issues with Product Pages

Based on tens of thousands of hours of research into ecommerce usability, we know that there are hundreds of things you can do, and not do, to maximize the likelihood that users of your online store will successfully add a product to their cart.

The following are the most common usability issues that affect product pages. Fixing these issues should see an improvement in adding to cart and result in a boost in your conversion rates.

  1. Always have at least 3–5 product images for all products
  2. Always use thumbnails to represent additional product images
  3. Use video to showcase products
  4. Use both “bullet lists” and “blocks of text” for product descriptions
  5. Improve the scannability of the spec sheet
  6. Ensure core content is reproduced across product variations
  7. Provide a ratings distribution chart at the top of the review section
  8. Respond to negative user reviews
  9. Implement ‘save’ features
  10. Provide a cross-sell section that only contains supplementary products
  11. Promote alternatives for discontinued products
